 《时代》是美国三大时事性周刊之一，内容广泛，对国际问题发表主张和对国际重大事件进行跟踪报道，在美国颇有影响力。《时代》周刊.也是世界知名的品牌，它在全球拥有广泛的读者，《时代》有美国国内版、国际版，以及欧洲、亚洲和拉丁美洲版，各版内容基本相同。占据着巨大的国际市场，成为宣传美国价值体系和生活方式的最好载体。《时代》也是最早全文上网的杂志之一，从其网站上可以浏览自1994年以来各期的所有内容。1999年美国杂志300强（《AdvertisingAge》评选，按营业额排名）的评比中，《时代》以 962，651（单位：千美元）排在了第三位。1999年美国杂志广告10强排名中《时代》排在了第二位。而它的.发行量近几年高达450万份左右，远远超过《新闻周刊》、《美国新闻与世界报道》等类似的周刊。《时代》每年推出的《时代词汇》，在某种意义上已成为美国语言变迁的记录。语言学的专家们甚至指出：“要学好美语，读《时代》杂志乃是一条捷径。”其杂志之影响，可见一斑。
